Educational Qualification

  •  Note: Simply passing 12th is not enough; candidates must possess Stenography skills (Shorthand) to pass the second stage of the selection process.
  • Candidates must have passed the 12th Standard or its equivalent from a recognized Board or University. 

Age Limit

  • Stenographer Grade ‘C’: 18 to 30 years (Born between August 2, 1996, and August 1, 2008)

  • Stenographer Grade ‘D’: 18 to 27 years (Born between August 2, 1999, and August 1, 2008)

    SSC Stenographer 2026: Selection Process (Step-by-Step) 

    Step 1: Computer Based Examination (CBT)

    Step 2: Shorthand Skill Test

    Step 1: Computer Based Examination (CBT)

    The first hurdle is an online objective-type test. You must clear the minimum qualifying marks and the category-wise cutoff to move forward.

  • Subject 1: General Intelligence & Reasoning (50 Marks)

  • Subject 2: General Awareness (50 Marks)

  • Subject 3: English Language & Comprehension (100 Marks)

     

    Step 2: Shorthand Skill Test

    Candidates shortlisted from the CBT are called for the Skill Test. This is qualifying in nature (marks are not added to the final merit, but you must pass it).

  • Dictation: You will be given a 10-minute dictation in English or Hindi.

    • Grade C: 100 words per minute (wpm).

    • Grade D: 80 words per minute (wpm).

  • Transcription: You must then transcribe the dictated notes on a computer within the following time limits:

    • Grade C: 40 mins (English) / 55 mins (Hindi).

    • Grade D: 50 mins (English) / 60 mins (Hindi).

 

Step 3: Document Verification (DV)

Once you pass the Skill Test, you will be called for Document Verification. You must present all original documents:

  • Matriculation (10th) & Intermediate (12th) Certificates.

  • Caste/Category Certificates (if applicable).

  • Aadhar Card/ID Proof.

  • Relevant PwBD or Ex-Servicemen certificates

 

Step 4: Medical Examination

Selected candidates may undergo a basic medical examination to ensure they meet the physical standards required for the various central ministries and departments.

 

Step 5: Final Merit List

The final selection is based solely on the performance in the Computer Based Examination (Step 1), provided the candidate has qualified for the Skill Test and cleared Document Verification.

 

SSC Stenographer 2026: Salary  

1. Stenographer Grade 'C' (Higher Level)

  • Pay Level: Level 7

  • Basic Pay: ₹44,900

  • Maximum Salary: ₹1,42,400

  • Monthly In-Hand: Approximately ₹65,000 – ₹72,000

     

    2. Stenographer Grade 'D' (Entry Level)
