SSB Constable Recruitment 2026: Selection Stage 3

Candidates who clear the Written Examination will be shortlisted for Document Verification and the Skill/Trade Test. This stage ensures you are both legally eligible and technically capable of performing the job.

Part A: Document Verification (DV)

You must present original documents. Failure to produce even one required certificate can lead to immediate disqualification.

  • Educational Certificates – 10th / 12th Pass Certificate and Marksheets.

SSB Constable Recruitment 2026: Selection Stage 4

Candidates who qualify through the Written Exam and Trade Test are called for the final hurdle: the Medical Examination. This ensures that every recruit is physically and mentally fit for the demanding life of a paramilitary force.

Part A: Detailed Medical Examination (DME)

The DME is a comprehensive check-up conducted by a Board of Medical Officers. The key focus areas include:

  • Eye Sight: * Distant Vision: 6/6 (Better Eye) and 6/9 (Worse Eye) without correction (no glasses/lenses).

    • Near Vision: N6 (Better Eye) and N9 (Worse Eye).

    • Color Vision: Must have normal color perception (CP-III) by Ishihara Chart.

  • Physical Deformities: Candidates must not have Knock Knees, Flat Feet, Varicose Veins, or a Squint in the eyes.

  • Hearing: Must have normal hearing ability in both ears.

  • General Health: Must be free from any chronic diseases, communicable diseases, or mental infirmity.

  • Tattoo Policy: Small religious tattoos are generally allowed only on the inner face of the left forearm (non-saluting hand).

Part B: Review Medical Examination (RME)

If a candidate is found "Unfit" during the DME, they are not immediately disqualified.

  • Right to Appeal: You will be informed of the specific medical grounds for rejection.

  • The Review: You can opt for a Review Medical Examination. The RME is usually conducted within 24 hours (or as specified) of the DME result.

  • Final Decision: The decision of the Review Medical Board is absolute and final. No further appeals are allowed after this stage.

Stage 5 – SSB Constable Final Merit List Selection

The Final Merit List is the ultimate list of candidates who have successfully cleared all stages and are selected for the job. It is important to know that while you must pass the Physical and Trade tests, they do not help your final rank.

How the Merit List is Prepared

  • Primary Factor: The selection is based solely on the marks obtained in the Written Examination (Stage 2).

  • Qualifying Nature of Other Stages: The PET/PST (Physical), Trade Test, and Medical Exam are only "Qualifying." You must pass them, but scoring 50/50 in a Trade Test won't rank you higher than someone who scored 31/50 if their Written Exam marks are better.

  • Category-Wise Lists: Separate merit lists are released for General, OBC, SC, ST, and EWS categories based on the available vacancies in each.

Tie-Breaking Rules

If two or more candidates score the same marks in the Written Exam, the SSB uses the following rules to decide the rank:

  1. Date of Birth: The candidate who is older in age will be placed higher on the merit list.

  2. Alphabetical Order: If the age is also the same, the candidate whose name comes first in alphabetical order (A to Z) will be selected.

  3. Educational Qualification: In some cases, higher educational degrees may be considered to break a tie.

Final Selection & Appointment

  • Medical Clearance: Only candidates who are declared "Medically Fit" in the DME/RME are considered for the final list.

  • Allotment: Candidates are allotted their respective trades (Driver, Cook, Barber, etc.) based on the preference they filled in the application form and their final rank.

  • Waitlist: Sometimes a "Reserve List" is maintained to fill vacancies if selected candidates do not join.
